Spotlight: Emily Greene
July 29, 2024 - Libby Adkins
Several weeks ago we welcomed our intern Emily to the team. Entering her final semester of college this fall she is hoping to gain experience in our post-production department. We love having her and welcomed her to Nashville last week from Chicago. We asked her a few questions about her career ambitions and what she is most excited about learning for the remainder of this summer.
MM: Now that you have been here for several weeks with us, what has been your favorite project to work on so far?
EG: My favorite projects have been the sizzle reels. I’ve been given a lot of creative freedom to experiment with different styles of editing, and hearing positive feedback from the team has been the most valuable learning experience I could ask for as a growing editor.
MM: As a film major, what are you looking to do as you approach graduation this fall?
EG: When I graduate I’m hoping to have some more time to hone in on my color correction skills and add some more pieces to my portfolio. I’ll probably be applying for some more internships or jobs out there. The pipeline dream would be to work full-time at a post-production house, but I know that’ll take some time down the road.
MM: What is something that you are hoping to learn and get experience doing this summer?
EG: After working at Massive Mission for a couple of weeks now, I feel like I’ve already learned so much as an editor, but if I had to add anything to that list I’d like to learn more about the business and producing side of film.
MM: With access to so many post-production tools, do you have a favorite part of post that you gravitate most towards?
EG: I’ve always taken a special interest in color correction and color grading mostly because it has so much control over how a film feels. I also feel like colorists have a secret superpower to fix problems. As the saying goes in the film industry “It’s okay, just fix it in post” I feel like it’s the colorists who often end up being the ones to experiment and have fun with that sort of stuff.
Now that I’ve had the chance to experiment with Adobe's audio tools though, I’m finally beginning to like audio editing. In terms of animation, I’m still teaching myself the basics in After Effects, but I could see myself taking it more seriously down the line.
MM: We have been lucky to have you in our Nashville office for a few weeks. What are some things that you are hoping to explore around the city?
EG: I’m only here for such a short time, but I’m really hoping to explore some bars and experience the live music scene. I enjoy learning about history too, so I also want to check out the Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash museums. Maybe I’ll explore a Taylor Swift bar, who knows! I’m also planning on checking out East Nashville as I’ve heard it’s an up-and-coming part of the city!
